Extra Blank Label When Printing Shipping Labels

Sometimes an extra blank label is printed after a shipping label. In almost all cases, this is not caused by ChannelDock or Sendcloud, but by the local printer configuration or the printing software being used.

This article explains what causes this and how to resolve it.

How label printing works

When printing a label via Sendcloud:

Sendcloud sends one label per print job. If an extra blank label is printed, this usually happens after the label has been generated, during the printing process.

This means the issue is almost always related to:

  • Printer settings or printer drivers

  • External printing tools (such as PrintNode)

Possible causes

An extra blank label is typically caused by one of the following settings.

Printer or driver settings

Check that the following settings are configured correctly:

  • Label size
Make sure the configured label size matches your physical labels (for example A6 or 4×6 inch).

  • Margins
Incorrect margins may cause the printer to feed an additional label.

  • Form feed or extra page settings
Some printers are configured to automatically advance the media after printing.

  • Gap or black mark detection (thermal printers)
Incorrect detection settings can cause the printer to feed an additional blank label.

Check PrintNode settings

If you are using PrintNode, the extra blank label may also be caused by its configuration.

Check in PrintNode:

  • Whether the label size matches the actual label format.

  • That no options such as extra page, form feed, or similar features are enabled.

  • That the printer configuration is correctly set.

Test without PrintNode

To identify where the issue occurs, you can perform a simple test:

  1. Download a shipping label as a PDF from Sendcloud.

  2. Print the label directly from your computer using the normal system print dialog (without PrintNode).

  3. Check if an extra blank label is printed.

Results:

  • No extra label → the issue is most likely related to PrintNode.

  • Extra label still appears → check your printer settings or driver configuration.

Alternative: Use the Sendcloud Print Client

You do not need PrintNode to print labels with Sendcloud.

The Sendcloud Print Client is designed to communicate directly with your printers from the Sendcloud panel and is optimized for label printing.

Benefits include:

  • Direct integration with Sendcloud

  • Fewer configuration issues

  • Better troubleshooting possibilities

You can install it via:

Sendcloud → Shipping → Printing options

After installing, print a few test labels to check whether the extra blank label still appears.

Summary

If the label looks correct on screen or when downloaded as a PDF, but the printer outputs an additional blank label, the issue is almost always related to:

  • printer settings

  • printer drivers

  • external printing software such as PrintNode

In these cases, the label generation in Sendcloud is working correctly, and the extra blank label occurs during the printing process itself.
